The spotted boxfish is responsible for a lot of confusion because there were two very similar looking but differently coloured fish. It was then discovered that these two fish were from the same species and were male and female versions of the same fish.
In the wild this species will feed on sponges and bottom dwelling invertebrates. It is best to keep just one per aquarium and should only be kept with peaceful and slow moving tank mates. The spotted boxfish will eat almost anything but will benefit from shellfish to help keeps its teeth worn down. This fish can be found in many fish stores. There is little information on the breeding of this fish.
