Oranda
This fish is a full bodied fish and has been purposely bred to develop a fleshy growth on its head sometimes referred to as a 'hood'.
The hood should be well spread over the head of the fish without getting in the way of the eyes. A good specime can be sold for a lot of money because it takes many years of inbreeding to create a good specimen. They are slow swimmers with fan tails. They come I a variety of colours including, red, red and white, black and even blue and black.
The Oranda requires well filtered slow moving water and will benefit from well oxygenated water. This Oranda is not the best of swimmers and will collide ito any decorations put into the tank. The substrate should be made up of well rounded pea gravel.
The Oranda will eat a variety of foods offered to them and a good variety will ensure the Oranda looks its best at all times.
Orandas can only be mixed with other slow moving fancy fish or kept in a species only tank.
This variety of Oranda would not survive in the wild but originates from china. It will grow to approximately 15cm however more and more specimens are growing larger than this. There is potential to breed this fish and they lay their eggs by scattering them across the aquarium. They will eat dry, frozen and live foods.
