How to Keep Platies Healthy
The Platy is a very popular freshwater fish, and they are a good fish for beginners. If kept healthy and happy they should breed in the home aquarium.
Platies are livebearers, and as with most livebearers they will benefit from the addition of 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons of aquarium water.
They will eat a variety of foods including flake food and blood worms.
Your Platy has a lifespan of 3 years, and if you have babies in the tank, they will reach sexual maturity after 4 months. The fish babies will happily eat what the parents are eating, but make sure they are fed a few times per day
Keep on top of your water conditions by testing water parameters on a regular basis
Make sure you do water changes once per week, and make sure you clean the gravel as well.
Visually check over your fish every day.
And most importantly enjoy them.
