Keeping Guppies Healthy
Guppies are by far one of the most popular freshwater fish found in aquariums, but they do need certain care for them to live their life span.
1)Guppies like to live in clean water as do most fish and regular cleaning sessions are needed. Regular water changes preferably once a week will keep most disease and parasites that effect guppies at bay. You certainly should not wait until your water becomes yellow or foul smelling.
2) Guppies like most fish can contain parasites and can wipe out an entire tank if introduced in the main aquarium straight away. It is always a good idea to put them in an isolation tank for a couple of weeks to a month.
3)) Guppies can deal with small fluctuations in the water chemistry so are a relatively hardy fish in this respect. However try to create a non stressful environment when cleaning the tank and doing water changes.
4) It is a good idea to check your equipment visually once a week to make sure everything are working and that filters haven't got clogged and heaters have not stopped working. It does not take long for the water temperature in a tank to drop which is why many enthusiasts have two heaters in their tank all the time.so that if one stops working whilst on holiday or at work the other one will keep the fish alive.
5) As with all fish tanks regular checks on the water chemistry will make sure the tank does not fluctuate too muck.
