How to Hand Feed Koi
You will need to choose the right fish because some types of fish are more timid than others. Koi are very sociable fish and do not mind getting close to humans. they can be trained to take food from your hand but this will not happen overnight.
It is a good idea to select a feeding place and stick to it. This way the koi will get used to the routine and are much more likely to feed from hand.
Start feeding your koi normally by throwing food into the water near to the koi. Stay where you are and watch the koi feed. This way they will become accustomed to seeing you whilst feeding and they will soon learn to realise that you are not a threat to them.
After a while of feeding your koi normally start to move closer to them as they feed with the goal being to have your hand in the water as they feed. This can take weeks to achieve. You will need to stay very still during this period and don't give up hope.
Now try and hand feed your koi. Do not put other food in the water because they will go for this instead. If they don't take the food at first don't give up just feed the fish as normal and try again the next day.
When the koi start to feed from your hand you will need to keep up with this practise. The larger the bolder the fish may be but this is not always the case.
