Common Goldfish
The common Goldfish is often the very first fish to be kept by fish keepers around the world.
The common Goldfish has not being treated very well by the fish keeper for many years, and is often kept in small bowls of water. Gone are the days where you will find this fish hanging in a plastic bag of a hook on the side of a funfair game.
To keep this fish you should set up as large a tank as possible and install a power filter to move and clean the water.
-The substrate should be small pea sized gravel which the fish can take into its mouth whilst looking for food without it becoming stuck.
-When you are looking to buy this fish look for a well built one with short fins. They will be yellow, orange or red. A black one is often a juvenile fish and will change colour as it matures.
-Goldfish will eat live plants, so you can either plant their food around the aquarium or opt for plastic decorations. Other decorations should be natural products such as bogwood or stones. The Goldfish do not use the decorations to retreat in or to breed so just make sure they are not sharp and aquarium safe.
-The Goldfish is hardy and can be kept at room temperature which is what makes this fish so desirable. It will eat dry or frozen food and is classified as a medium fish to breed. It will breed by scattering its eggs.
It will grow to a size of approximately 30cm and originates from china.
