The Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides Dimidiatus), is a very popular fish amongst fish keepers and is certainly the most popular in the wrasse family.
The Cleaner Wrasse is a cleaner fish as the name suggests and will pick off the bacteria from the subject fish. It will also remove any dead tissue. It has been observed that sometimes the colour of the host fish changes colour to a duller shade possibly to help the Cleaner wrasse to see any parasites.
The cleaner wrasse grows to 10cm in length and in the aquarium can be fed finely chopped meat.
Cleaner wrasse like to live in rocks and corals and can live for four years. All cleaner wrasse are born as females and the dominant one of the group will change into a male. All other fish in the group are female or juveniles. They generally form groups of 8 ad can even be seen cleaning inside the mouths of some larger fish.
